Japanese Friendship Garden | Phoenix Fine Art Film Weddings

Earlier this year I headed back to Phoenix. I packed my medium format film camera, 8 rolls of film and a wedding gown in my suitcase. It was sort of a spur of the moment trip and I was up for anything (and a teeny tiny photography convention).

With the generous help of my friend Katie I was able to borrow a wedding gown and find a model to be my muse in Phoenix. The only thing I didn’t plan was the location. I thought someone must know of greenery or green space in Arizona. I’ve photographed desert type locations in both Arizona and Nevada and was ready for something different. I asked everyone I bumped into if they knew of anything…but mostly all of Phoenix is arid desert.

Except for one place, the Japanese Friendship Garden (or Ro Ho En). I drove past this beautiful place on the way from the airport to the house I was staying at. It looked interesting. It was exactly what I was hoping for. Ro Ho En is an intimate oasis and is perfect for weddings…I’d love to fly out to shoot an all film wedding here!

Enjoy my first solo session in medium format film.
